What is the 12 hour comic challenge? Well
it's when you get one meglomaniacal comic store owner
and a group of artists who don't know any better, you
put them together and they have to come up with 12 pages
of artwork. It must be penciled, inked and lettered in
the 12 hours with a cohesive story.
Where does the meglomaniacal store owner
come in? He comes in at the start with the idea of having
three items to choose which you must integrate into your
12 page story. A character, an event and a theme.
I was lucky to choose, Border guard, Skiing
trip and accomplishment.
I used the skiing trip as the main basis
for this very simple buddy tale. The border guard is just
a teeny weeny silhouette in the window of the guard hut,
and the accomplishment is that they get to where they
are going, alive and after surving a break in thier friendship.
Anyway, have a look at the comic below,
keep in mind is was done in 12 hours and the punch line
was developed last minute when I only had 2 minutes to
finish the last page.
And best thing about it, we did for charity.
Happy
Harbour Comics and Toys in Edmonton with us artists
managed to wrangle just over $1,000 dollars for the Edmonton
Big Brothers
Big Sisters programme.
